Gallery Isabelle: Fariba Boroufar - In Our Bones

Gallery Isabelle showcases an exquisite exhibition, ‘In Our Bones,’ marking Fariba Boroufar’s inaugural solo showcase in the UAE, running from October 31st to December 7th, 2024. Boroufar’s approach to weaving—though seemingly primitive—paired with her depictions of architectural forms and traditions nearing extinction, crafts a poetic reflection of our fractured reality, serving both as a protest against forgetfulness and as a homage to alternative ways of inhabiting our world.

Boroufar’s woven pieces possess an uncanny quality. They evoke aspects of constructed environments through a subtle, ambiguous, and pleasing correspondence. If you observe two slender, tall structures she has woven for a while, you might perceive them as a pair of wind towers, or bad-gir, a traditional architectural feature designed for cooling in desert climates. In another piece, a cluster of hexagons starts to evoke the intricate tile work found in the magnificent mosques of Esfahan. Another creation draws inspiration from gaalipoush, the ancient technique of roofing with leaves seen in the northern Caspian Sea region—representing not just a structural element but also a psychological gesture: nature utilized for healing and protection.
