Expo 2020, Dubai - Spain Pavilion
Explore Spain’s Pavilion at Expo 2020, Dubai, located in the Sustainability District. The pavilion's theme is ‘Intelligence for life’.
The Spain Pavilion was an open, eco-friendly exhibition that seamlessly blended ancient heritage and cutting-edge innovation. The airy ground floor featured several small, naturally cooled plazas ideal for relaxing or snacking on tapas. Guests were able to venture underground into a roomy basement, to explore a “forest of the future” exhibition filled with thought-provoking installations and demonstrations of Spain’s contributions to global sustainability.
The sculpture ‘Dynamo 2021,’ created by Studio Daniel Canogar was an ambitious and site-specific audiovisual project in collaboration with music composer Francisco Lopez. The suspended interlaced loops of the art piece, situated in the atrium of the pavilion, lie in the middle of a spiral alley, which generates audio-visual content through its interaction with visitors.
Technology has shaped the installation, which was 3 years in the making, and made out of components which were once industrial scrap. As the rail detects more contact the Dynamo gets colourful; the sound becomes more intense. The activation is in the hands of the visitors.
See the video below for examples of the changes in the installation.
The Expo took place in Dubai between 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.
