At Abu Dhabi Art, Lawrie Shabibi showcases a solo exhibition by Mandy El-Sayegh, which includes large-scale paintings and sculptural pieces within an immersive installation created on-site by the artist.
Mandy El-Sayegh utilizes various media to explore how social, cultural, and political structures are constructed and deconstructed in today’s world. Through her large-scale paintings, table vitrines, immersive installations, performances, and videos, she combines disparate fragments of information to investigate how meaning can arise from the interplay of these different materials. Her works commonly incorporate newsprint, advertisements, aerial maps, anatomy texts, and calligraphy, along with hand-painted elements and unconventional materials like latex, enabling her to traverse material, bodily, and linguistic contexts.

Mandy El-Sayegh will unveil a newly commissioned piece, Psychic Self-Defence, exclusively for the Gateway exhibition. Curated by Odessa Warren and Carine Harmand, this year's theme, Otra Orilla ("Another Shore"), highlights the connections between the Arab world and Latintures artists like Emilia Estrada, Alia Farid, Francisca Khamis Giacoman, and Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez. Additionally, the gallery features Dima Srouji within the In & Around program, showcasing her Maternal Labour series and The Rule of Superpositions. Maternal Labour includes aluminium prints that pay tribute to Palestinian women employed by Western institutions in the 20th century to excavate their homeland.
